COVID tantrum no match for whenua fight
The daughter of Dame Whina Cooper has told anti-vaccination protesters to stop using her mother’s image.
Pictures of the Māori Land March leader were sported by people who tried to turn last week’s He Whakaputanga commemoration at Waitangi into an anti-vax protest, and they also feature in social media posts extolling their so-called freedoms.
Hinerangi Puru-Cooper says using the image without the consent and knowledge of the whānau is theft.
She says her mother lead many land rights struggles and was a staunch advocate for He Whakaputanga me Te Tiriti.
People have no right to misrepresent and exploit her legacy for their own COVID, anti-vax or pro-choice agendas.
