Jones endorses Glavish election

Labour’s Maori spokesperson, Shane Jones, has welcomed the election of Naida Glavish as Maori Party president.
He says she has been a fighter for Ngati Whatua and a pioneer of the Maori language revival.
The pair served together on the Maori fisheries commission in the 1990s, and Mr Jones says she showed a quality of leadership that seems lacking now.
"Naida was a fantastic warrior for us in the Maori fisheries, bringing some order and bringing a pathway forward that enabled us to remain Maori but also to try and economically empower our iwi. Her and Te Atawhai Archie Taiaroa stand out as the two key figures from my time in the '90s involved in the Maori fisheries," he says.
Mr Jones says Naida Glavish will bring a quality of directness to the Maori Party.
