Hub brings together family harm services
A new facility in south Auckland that co-houses government and community groups is being hailed as a new approach to prevent family harm.
The Multi-Disciplinary Family Harm Prevention Hub Te Taanga Manawa in Lambie Road in Manukau was opened this morning by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Thirteen groups have signed on to work from the hub including Police, Oranga Tamariki, Corrections, Counties Manukau District Health, the Anglican Church’s Te Whare Ruruhau O Meri, Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu, anti-child abuse group Te Kāhui Mana Ririki and Barnardos.
Ms Ardern says there are over 23,000 Police call outs to family harm incidents in Counties Manukau each year, and increased pressure on families because of COVID.
Funding from the centre comes from a $35 million COVID Response and Recovery Fund to support family violence services in May.
The new shared working space at Te Taanga Manawa means multi-disciplinary teams can better collaborate to support whanau and their children who are experiencing family harm.
