They're known as the Miranda hot springs, but the New Zealand Geographic Board says that locality does not exist.
It's proposing the springs just south of Kaiaua on Tikapa Moana or the Firth of Thames be called Pukorokoro Hot Springs.
A hill and stream in the area will also be renamed Pukorokoro, and the Miranda name will disappear.
Other changes now being consulted on include renaming the beach and other features in the eastern Bay of Plenty from Waiotahi with an I to Waiotahe with an E.
Mackays Crossing between Paekakariki and Raumati will be renamed Te Ramaroa / Mackays Crossing.
