Māori give edge in China promotion

Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis says the involvement of Māori tourism businesses in a trade mission to China is an indication of the intense interest Chinese have for that aspect of the New Zealand experience.
The companies supported by 10 members of Tāmaki Makaurau-based kapa haka group Te Wehi Haka are at the Opening Doors to the West Business Forum in Chengdu and Xi'an.
Mr Davis says he's off to China later this year for an event to wrap up the China New Zealand Year of Tourism.
"Māori feature prominently in everything we do there. It's a real drawcard, it's a real strength for us. People come here because of culture, our people, our stories and our landscapes, and so we have to do more and more to promote ourselves and there are massive opportunities for Māori," Mr Davis says.
