Look after refugees say Greens
Greens co-leader Metiria Turei says it’s distressing that on the eve of Anzac Day the Government is putting troops in harms way.
About 150 service personnel are in Australia undergoing training for a joint assignment to Iraq.
Ms Turei says that’s after New Zealanders have made it clear they don’t want this country to participate in the war.
She says diplomacy is a better option, as is opening the door to more refugees.
"That would be the most humane thing that we could do and its something we are good at and we have been good at in the past and we could be really good at it again. It would demonstrate a real care for the community over there who have been ravaged by this war" she says.
