Ministry looks at violence against Maori women

New research by the Ministry for Women says whanau can be both a protective factor and a risk factor in keeping Maori women safe from violence.
The report Wahine Maori, Wahine Ora, Wahine Kaha – Preventing violence against Maori women says Maori women are twice as likely to experience violence as other New Zealand women.
Minister for Women Louise Upston says the research shows how healthy relationships between men and women within whanau and within the community help prevent violence.
She says the report will be an important contribution to government’s work with Maori on addressing family violence and sexual violence.
