Fish settlement review timely
The chair of the iwi committee overseeing a review of the Maori fisheries settlement, Mark Ngata, says a lot has happened in the past decade, and it’s important to see whether the structures put in place are still working.
Wellington barrister Tim Castle has been picked to conduct the review, which was a condition of the Maori Fisheries Settlement Act.
Mr Ngata says he will look at whether Te Ohu Kaimoana,Aotearoa Fisheries,Te Putea Whakatupu Trust and Wai Maori Trust are up to meeting today’s challenges.
"Part of the review is to identify are the structures that currently work in these entities able to achieve the optimal levels of performance despite the fluctuating environment. That is going to be an important pare of the review as well," he says.
