Tiriti partnership essential for Tairawhiti says Gisborne mayor
Iwi are set to play a key role in a regional summit to be held in the Gisborne later this month.
The Tomorrow Together Summit on February 23 will bring together Tairāwhiti iwi, civic, community and business leaders with senior government ministers to address the region’s social and economic challenges, and opportunities.
Gisborne mayor Rehette Stoltz says she’s meeting with iwi chairs tomorrow to emphasise the importance of their contributions.
“We need input from everyone. We need buy-in from everyone. Together we are just so much stronger so we welcome input from our Maori partners. It is absolutely pivotal for us as a region to succeed. The Gisborne District Council want to be a good tiriti partner, want to work alongside our iwi and hapu partners,” she says.
Ms Stoltz says it will be an opportunity for the Government to talk to leaders of the district on how to build resilience a year on from Cyclone Gabrielle.
