Team of Six Million blasts quarantine fee proposal

New Zealanders based overseas warn that charging quarantine fees could breach their fundamental rights as well as Māori rights under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
A group of 14 expatriates has launched a campaign advocating for New Zealanders to return home without quarantine fees.
Team of Six Million spokesperson Phoebe Carr says the estimated one million New Zealanders based overseas already face huge hurdles if they want to return home in the midst of a global pandemic.
She says a user pays approach to managed isolation now being discussed would effectively shift the cost of New Zealand’s public health response to Covid-19 onto individuals, disproportionately affecting low-income Kiwis based overseas.
