Covid answers needed from inquiry
The chief medical officer for Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau says the continuing number of Covid cases highlights the importance of the work of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the country’s pandemic response.
The three-member commission has been meeting with engaging with key individuals, organisations, and communities to identify lessons learned, and later this month will open up for public submissions.
Dr Andrew Connolly says New Zealanders want answers.
“Oviously they’re sort of looking in hindsight, about how we responded as a country, but I also hope we’ll learn important lessons for future problems. I don’t envy their work, it’s a huge task,” he says.
Over the past week there were 5872 new cases reported and 19 deaths.
