Hot acts for Waiata Awards concert
Showband veterans will share the Hawkes Bay Opera House stage with pop newcomers at next month’s National Waiata Māori Music Awards ceremony in Hastings.
Headlining the event is reggae band Katchafire, which spent the first half of the year touring the UK, Europe and the US.
Also up for the first time are Sydney-based pop trio Young Men Society (YMS), which includes Nathan Tamati, the son of former Kiwi rugby league star, Kevin Tamati, Auckland pop opera trio AIO, and Hamilton brother and sister Kalen and Eden Hapuku, who perform as Kees.
Award finalists who will also tread the boards include the Queen of Loops, Mihirangi Fleming, Toni Huata and Maisey Rika.
Rim D Paul, whose first te reo album is an award contender, will perform with the Rotorua Māori Choir.
