Digital survey reveals school struggles
A nationwide survey of New Zealand school students has found tauira Māori struggled more with learning at home during lockdown, but they are also less likely to feel included at school.
CensusAtSchool TataurangaKiTeKura is an online educational project to encourage students to learn how to use statistics.
Based on the responses from the first 13,400 students to answer the anonymous survey, seven out of ten students felt that their learning at home during lockdown was either better, or the same, as learning in school.
But when ethnicity was factored in, about a quarter of Pākehā students and almost 40 per cent of Māori students said it was worse.
The breakdown was similar for the question of whether students felt included at school.
