Ethnic communities set to tackle family violence

The Minister for the Prevention of Family and Social Violence says ethnic communities need to design and lead their own solutions.
Marama Davidson last week launched the Ethnic Communities Network to support that activity.
She says it will draw on the progress already made by the Maori and Pasika networks, and acknowledges tiriti justice and the role of tangata whenua.
“So those experiences of colonisation, of oppression and of resilience despite all of that is a common thread throughout our communities so we bring that together. We realise that helping each other, supporting each other in our mana motuhake over our communities is going to help us as well,” Minister Davidson says.
Ethnic communities are a diverse group representing over 200 ethnicities, including new and temporary migrants, former refugees, asylum-seekers, long-term settlers and people who were born in Aotearoa New Zealand.
