Oranga Tamariki advice on transition from care ignored
A veteran social worker Pāora Crawford Moyle youth coming out of state-care are being left fend for themselves.
Paora Crawford Moyle says there has been no action on a 2021 report on Oranga Tamariki’s community houses which highlighted problems with the transition process.
She wants to see wrap-around support available until they reach the age of 25.
“Get them into education, something fun. You know, give them a pūtea to help them be independent. Leaving them just in the bind by go fend for yourself. It’s just like chucking them on the rubbish heap. It’s not good enough, we can do way better,” she says.
