Trades an option for wahine

Today being International Women‘s Day, a champion of Maori trade training says women should consider a career in the trades.
Sir Pita Sharples says there’s a need for more than 30,000 new trades people to meet the demand for new housing and other infrastructure.
He says many of those will be women.
"Times have changed and with increased technology you don't need to be the big hefty he-man to build a house now and in fact many of the trade skills, pukenga, suit women and that is why more and more are finding a vocation," he says.
Sir Pita Sharples says the key to the new Maori and Pacific trades training schemes is the way they try to place tauira into jobs rather than throwing them at the mercy of the market when they finish their course.
