Bout icing on the cake for boxing mama Motu
Te Rarawa boxer Mea Motu says it’s an honour to headline tomorrow night’s Fight For Life charity event – the first women’s fight to do so.
Motu will fight Canadian Tiana Walters for the IBO Super Bantamweight World Title – which should open doors to global attention, sponsorship, and even bigger fights.
She says learning to box was a key part of her recovery from years of domestic abuse … but the support of her children, whanau, and supporters is what drives her.
“It’ll mean a lot to me personally, because of all the struggles I’ve been through. It’s the icing on the cake. It’s what I’ve been dreaming for the last two years, and it’s the purpose why I’ve wanted to come back to boxing,” she says.
Motu says she loves supporting and encouraging youth, so raising funds for the I Am Hope charity – which focuses on youth mental health – is an honour.
