Maori voice included in Christchurch mosque response
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu chief executive Arihia Bennett has been appointed chair of a Ministerial Advisory Group on the Government’s Response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the terrorist attack on Christchurch mosques.
Andrew Little, who is the lead minister coordinating the Government’s response, says the 28 people on the group come from diverse backgrounds across Aotearoa and include affected whānau, survivors and witnesses, representative communities, civil society, local government and the private sector.
The formation of such a group was recommended by the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the shootings.
The group will provide independent advice to the Government on the way it implements the commission’s recommendations.
Among the members are Māori Muslim Noeleen van de Lisdonck and Manukau Urban Māori Authority chair, Bernie O’Donnell.
