Big job ahead for Te Nehenehenui to reconnect Maniapoto living outside Te Rohe Potae
Representative of the Maniapoto Kaunihera kaumatua Tom Roa believes the new Maniapoto entity Te Nehehenui Trust, has a lot of work to do moving forward.
“With more than 90% of our people living away from their rohe, one of the challenges we face as an Iwi, is for our people to re- connect to each other so we can move forward together into the future”, he said.
Tom Roa was among a large group of Maniapoto kaumatua who attended the dawn ceremony held earlier in Te Kuiti.
Karanga and karakia took place with the removal of the Maniapoto Maori Trust Board signs and the unveiling of the new Te Nehenehenui logo.
Bella Takiari-Brame is the chair of Te Nehenehenui and had earlier announced the appointment of new members to a range of Te Nehenehenui Committees. Wayne Tainui (Rereahu) is now Chair of the Group Investment Committee, Sheree Ryan (Ngati Paretāpoto) joins the Audit & Risk Committee as Chair, Leesah Murray (Ngāti Rōrā, Ngāti Waiora, Ngāti Te Paemate) has been appointed as Chair for the People & Remuneration Committee and Azania Watene (Ngāti Maniapoto) is also welcomed as a new member of the Audit & Risk Committee.
