Uffindell makes case to keep voting age

Veteran politician Winston Peter says Sam Uffindell’s fall from grace illustrates why 16-year-olds should not be given the vote.
Mr Uffindell, who in June won the Tauranga seat held for many years by Mr Peters, has been suspended from the National Party caucus while there is an investigation of allegations that have arisen since he admitted being asked to leave his private school after an aggravated assault on a younger pupil.
The New Zealand First leader says he won’t comment on the case until the facts come out, but says there’s no defence for thuggery and bullying.
“A 16, a 15, a 14-year-old is not prepared for the world and this is the evidence. They’re not prepared psychologically, they’re not prepared in their training and heaven knows and heaven knows if we were to go back and look at our school days, the things we did wrong, back then there used to be the cane and the strap and it was the making of some of us because we needed it,” Mr Peters says.
