New model for youth charity

The founder of a new youth charity says new models need to be developed to fund organisations working with at risk groups.
Alex Greig says Y for Youth will offer businesses a way to contribute, with the payback coming from improved consumer awareness and perception of their products.
The plan will be unveiled at a launch in Auckland tonight featuring musician Tiki Taane and other youth ambassadors.
Mr Greig says data such as the fact more than half of youth suicides are Māori shows resources aren’t going where they are needed.
“And there are a lot of successful and proven programmes that do operate in the main centres that are not operating in rural and smaller suburban areas. Our vision is to be able to empower these organisations so they can spread and go to the areas that are most needed,” he says.
The Stand Up for Youth April event is at Y for Youth’s headquarters in Fleet St, Auckland at 7pm tonight. Details are on Facebook.
