Business side of arts in expanded Māori fund
Creative New Zealand has expanded its Toi Tipu Toi Rea programme for emerging Māori artists.
As well as providing contestable funding, it now includes a capability support programme to help artists develop the business skills they need for a successful career in the arts.
It will run three wānanga on how to build networks, write effective funding applications and develop business skills to set them on the road to self-sufficiency.
Māori arts practice director Kereama Te Ua says Toi Tipu Toi Rea came out of a 2013 study that found there wasn’t enough support for emerging Māori artists.
But putea isn’t enough, and Creative NZ wants to build infrastructure for artists and foster community and interconnectedness between practitioners.
Applications for the capability-building programme open today and close on August 31.
The Toi Tipu Toi Rea contestable fund focussing on supporting artistic practice opens on the 12th of September and closes on the 11th of October.
