Kotiro league spectacle Matatini class

The head of New Zealand Māori Rugby League is looking forward to a great spectacle at this weekend’s Kotiro (girls) age-grade tournament in Rotorua.
John Devonshire says there will be more than 800 players in four age groups.
It follows a similar tane tourney earlier in the month.
He says he loves just being there, especially at the start of the second day.
“At 9 o’clock Saturday of our tournaments when you’ve got six fields, 12 teams, and the haka and waiata are ringing out across the fields and it’s just beautiful; It’s the closest thing you can get to Matatini that’s not Matatini,” he says.
Mr Devonshire says it’s a great way to celebrate Matariki.
