Inflatables make for fantastic festival fun

The Auckland Arts Festival is blowing up, despite Covid restrictions.
Most in-person events have been cancelled, and most of the remaining programme has gone online.
But Ataahua Papa, the festival’s kaihautu Māori, says the public can check out Spoken Walls, poems by 14 rangatahi on display around the city, and Fantastic Planet, a group of six giant humanoid inflatable figures installed at sites from Silo Park to Aotea Square.
“They’re really fun and playful. Those are probably best seen at dusk and night time because they light up. they’re really huge and they make a statement. We’re encouraging people to get out and see all six of them,” she says.
Artist Amanda Parer is running a competition for people to take selfies with the sculptures.
