Māori Party writes wish list after positive poll
Māori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi says yesterday’s poll showing the party could hold the balance of power at next year’s election is not unexpected.
He says there is confidence in what the party is doing, its road map and its policies.
If it gets the chance, there will be a price for Labour and National or Labour to win the party’s support to govern.
“If those parties do not align to a Māori kaupapa, do not align to a Tiriti-centric Aotearoa, do not align to our desire for constitutional transformation, then it makes it much more difficult to find common ground if we are going continue to do things as we have done trying to navigate our way through the current system,” Mr Waititi says.
The One News/ Kantar poll found 39 per cent support for National compared to Labour’s 37 per cent, with the Maori Party’s 2 per cent meaning it could have three MPs and the deciding votes.
