Ōrakei hapū want protest gone from Pukekawa
Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei is working with Police and Auckland Council to clear anti-vax protesters from Pukekawa Pā, Auckland Domain.
Deputy chair Ngarimu Blair says Pukekawa is part of the block Ngāti Whātua gifted to Governor Hobson in 1840.
He says with Omicron now ripping through the city, there’s little sympathy for people who don’t believe in basic public health measures like mandates which have helped to prevent many Māori dying from Covid.
“For our own peace of mind as Aucklanders, as Ngāti Jafa, we certainly would not like to see this extended much further and certainly not as long as Taranaki Whānui have had to endure,” Mr Blair says.
