PM on right track for Ihumātao action

Tāmaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare is backing the Prime Minister's responses to the Ihumātao protests.
A hīkoi of about 300 people marched yesterday from Ihumātao to Jacinda Ardern's Mouth Albert electorate office to deliver a petition calling on her to visit the site.
Mr Henare says her stance and that of the Government is that the mediation process among mana whenua facilitated by the Kiingitanga needs to run its course, and a visit at this time would not help that.
"She's made it clear it's something she hasn't ruled out but is really keen to see this process through, and we committed to this process early on and want to see it go through so I'm continually supportive of her stance on this matter. If there is a resolution found in the short term, that's awesome," he says.
Mr Henare was unable to confirm speculation Waikato Tainui was in negotiation with developers Fletcher to buy the land, and says there will be no meddling in the Kiingitanga process by the Government.
