The New Zealand First caucus is set for a briefing on how money set aside for Māori broadcasting is being shared out.
MP Shane Jones says its broadcasting spokesperson Jenny Marcroft sought the briefing because of what appears to be growing discord in the sector.
He's concerned at statements from Te Māngai Pāho chief executive Larry Parr that his organisation was now a reo Māori funding agency rather than a broadcast funding agency.
He says Māori community radio needs to be safeguarded and supported.
"We don’t want Māori radio starved, we don’t want Māori radio bullied, and we want it to grow. For the growth to take place the owners, the trustees and the proponents of Māori radio, they also have to lift their own game and we the politicians will ensure there is enough fuel in the tank," Mr Jones says.
He's also keen to get clarity on what has happened to the various allocations to Māori from successive generations of mobile phone spectrum.
