Details of NZ Wars battles for summit
What happened on battlefields around the country will be the focus of the second Te Pūtake o te Riri Summit at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi in Whakatāne next month.
The first symposium in 2017 took a more overarching view of how the New Zealand Wars changed the country.
Organiser Malcolm Mulholland says this time there will be presentations about Māori weaponry, rongoā, rituals and flags, as well as discussions about why it is important to learn that part of the country’s history.
As well as historians, iwi and wānanga students, high school students in the Eastern Bay of Plenty region are invited this year to attend so they can become more familiar with the country’s past.
The symposium is supported through the Te Pūtake o te Riri fund administered by Te Puni Kōkiri
