Guilty plea to forest trust pillage

A former trustee of a far north Maori forestry block has pleaded guilty of defrauding the trust of nearly a million dollars.
Margaret Dixon pleaded guilty to three representative charges of theft by person in special relationship under the Crimes Act at the Auckland District Court on May 3.
Her brother Stephen Henare faces six charges of theft by person in special relationship in relation to actions as a trustee of Parengarenga 3G (P3G) Trust.
The Serious Fraud Office says after the Maori Trustee transferred control of the 512 hectare forest block back to the owners in 2012, the Dixon and Henare transferred the cash on hand into personal accounts and family trusts.
The money was supposed to be for replanting the land.
Henare has pleaded not guilty to the charges and will reappear later this month.
Dixon will be sentence in July.
