Deadline looms for abuse inquiry terms

Those wanting a say on the terms of reference for the Royal Commission on Historical Abuse in State Care have just six more days.
Public submissions must be in by midnight on Monday April 30.
Chair Sir Anand Satyanand says he is pleased with the number and quality of submissions from individuals and groups, with more than 200 submissions received so far.
He says the four main areas of feedback are on the scope and purpose of the inquiry, a suitable reference to the Treaty of Waitangi, the inquiry timelines and what constitutes state care.
Some submitters have also told him the inquiry needs to focus on the ongoing care and well being of survivors and help support them through the process.
Once cabinet agree the terms of reference, the Royal Commission can start hearing evidence.
Submissions can be made by email to abuseinstatecare@royalcommission.govt.nz, post to PO Box 10071 The Terrace, Wellington 6143 or free phone 0800 222 727.
