Rare chance to view Maori art
Aucklanders will get a rare chance this weekend to see the work of the best established and emerging Maori artists.More than 40 artists have work in
the Toi Tamaki exhibition at the Viaduct Events Centre as part of the three-day Tamaki Herenga Waka Festival.
Leisa (Lisa) Siteine from Auckland Tourism and Events says it’s a great opportunity for the artists to get their work before the public.
"Also providing an opportunity for the people of Tamaki or whoever is coming to the festival to see these artworks all together in one space. A bit of a snapshot of the work our Maori artists have been doing and you probably wouldn't be able to see it anywhere else in the world all in one space," she says.
More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which also includes fashion, weaving, carving, music, kai, and of course waka displays and workshops.
