Rankin enlists Brash to lead anti-IMSB petition
Maverick plumber David Rankin, who now describes himself as an Auckland property developer and Ngapuhi leader, has launched an online petition calling for the abolition of Auckland’s Independent Maori Statutory Board.
The petition has already gained the signature of former National Party and ACT leader Don Brash, who is mounting his own campaign against things Maori with his Hobson’s Pledge group.
The petition says the board has worked against the interests of Aucklanders, cost rate-payers millions of dollars, and is an example of race-based politics.
Mr Rankin plans to present the petition to the Prime Minister in August, a month before the election.
Mr Brash says he agrees very strongly the board has been a disaster for Auckland, and bad for Maori/non-Maori relationships.
Other comments on the petition say the board is anti-democratic, abolition is a way for Auckland Council to save money, and that there is now no such thing as Maori because all New Zealanders are one people.
