Matauranga research fund open

Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith and Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell have called for proposals for the fifth round of the Te Punaha Hihiko – Vision Matauranga Capability Fund.
Up to $4 million is available for projects that strengthen connections between Maori and the science and innovation system.
Maori researchers, hapu and communities can work with traditional research organisations like universities, crown research institutes and government agencies.
Projects funded last year included several looking at freshwater management, a Scion Research placement with Lake Taupo Forest Management to look at clonal forestry in Maori-owned plantations, and a Lincoln University study of using beet fodder to improve the profitability of Mangatu’s East Coast beef farms.
Applications for the round must be in to the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment by April 5.
