Politicians given homeless challenge
Musicians involved in last night’s Music Is Love: Hope for the homeless benefit concert were heading down to Te Puea Marae today to hand over the door take.
Rio Panapa from Sons of Zion says the final total won’t be known until next week when the money from online ticket sales and GiveALittle pledges comes in, but it’s likely to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
He says it was a great night.
"It was just a feeling of togetherness and everyone's spirits were high and everyone was there for the same reason, to support Te Puea, support our people there, show solidarity and send a statement to the government, 'this is what we are doing, what are you doing down there in Wellington,'" Mr Panapa says.
Te Puea will also be one the places where a cross party inquiry involving Labour, the Greens and the Maori Party will hear submissions on homelessness.
They’re calling for submissions before August 12, ands the hearings will be held in late August or September.
