Progress being made towards unity says Tuhoronuku

The new leadership of Ngapuhi claim negotiating body Tuhoronuku aren’t taking threats from the Government lying down.
Treaty Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson this week warned that Ngapuhi stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars if issues around the tribe’s Treaty settlement are not sorted.
He warned Tuhoronuku the crown could withdraw its mandate if it does not gain more support from opposing hapu.
Tuhoronuku chair Hone Sadler says in fact a lot of progress has been made since he and deputy Kara George met the Minister three weeks ago, but some processes take time.
A committee has been set up under Tuhoronuku board member Moana Tuwhare to engage with opposing hapu and groups.
He says the Office of Treaty Settlements is helping to develop an engagement process that everybody can have faith in.
