New curriculum for kura

Kura Kaupapa Maori now have their own curriculum to work to.
Te Marautanga o Te Aho Matua encapsulates the principles developed in the 70-plus Maori immersion schools over the past 30 years.
Toni Waho, the chair of Te Runanga Nui o Nga Kura Kaupapa Maori o Aotearoa, says it’s driven by what is critical to the growth and development of the Maori child in their whanau.
"We take a broad view of the holistic view ,the wholesness of the child and the holiness of the child if you like. And we have worked in conjunction with our parents, our families, our whanau to ensure we are upholding the principles of Te Aho Matua," he says.
Toni Waho says the 70-plus students will no longer have to struggle with deciding which curriculum documents and learning objectives they should adopt.
