Feed the kids bill rejection sad

Mana leader Hone Harawira has thanked Greens co-leader Metiria Turei for taking his feed the kids bill as far as she could against strong resistance from the Government.
The bill was voted down last night at its first reading by 61 votes to 59.
The former Tai Tokerau MP says the bill has generated healthy debate on the issue of child poverty, and he’s grateful to the other parties that supported the initiative.
"It is a very simple issue. It's not about rocket science this Bill, it's not about changing the world, it's not about our relationship with any other govenrment, it's not about a new employment policy. It's not about anything else but feeding the kids. And its a sad commentary when a government can commit between $60-$100 million to sending our troops back to Iraq but can't spend $20 million dollars, just $20 million to feed the kids here in Aotearoa," he says.
Hone Harawira says the issue has not died because Labour MP David Shearer has a similar bill before the house.
