Students rate Stan Walker tops
A national survey of what schoolchildren think and do has revealed that singer Stan Walker is kiwi kids’ favourite local celebrity by far.
Census At School/ Tataurangi Ki Te Kura was developed as a way to bring statistics to life in the classroom.
Co-director Rachel Cunliffe says more than 2500 students have taken part in this year’s census since it went online on Monday.
The 35 questions cover issues such as bullying, what they eat, how many text message they send and how much their schoolbag weights.
She says in the celebrity stakes Walker was the favourite of a quarter of the sample, followed by 21 percent backing for Lorde.
"Stan’s just such a positive influence. He's always smiling. He's always laughing about things but also has a really positive message and people warm to that. He's also incredibly successful, come from humble upbringing and a bit of a crazy childhood but he's achieved his dreams and he is very inspiring for children in New Zealand obviously," Ms Cunliffe says.
More results will be released after the survey finishes at the end of May, and the data will then be made available to the more than 800 participating schools so students can do their own data detecting.
