Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox would like to see the new Te Reo Maori Bill put a greater onus on government to take part in language revival.
Ms Fox says Wales requires all government departments to be bilingual, meaning everyone has a right to be dealt with in the Welsh language if they want to.
She says some of those making submissions on the bill now before the Maori affairs select committee raised similar ideas.
