No logic in ACC job cuts
The Public Service Association says job cuts at the Accident Compensation Commission will set back efforts to make workplaces safer and preventing sexual violence and harm in communities.
The ACC wants to cut 390 positions and says it will reinvest the savings into more client-facing roles.
PSA delegate Fleur Fitzsimons says the cuts are cold hearted and in some cases seem random.
“This government said that they would take an evidence based approach to decision making, that they would go line by line through government departments and think carefully about what roles could go. Actually what we’ve seen is a hasty and random approach to cost cutting, which is actually doing a violence on not only people but on our public service departments and the services that they deliver,” she says.
Roles to go include prevention of sexual violence, road safety and workplace safety teams.
