Permanent judge for Maori Land Court

Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell has permanently appointed lawyer Michael Doogan to the Maori Land Court.
It follows a number of temporary appointments that have had critics questioning the future of the court and the Waitangi Tribunal.
Judge Doogan has been a temporary judge of the court since January 2013.
Mr Flavell says in that time has proven to be a valued member of the bench and gained the trust and respect of his peers and court staff.
Judge Doogan joined the Crown Law Office in the Treaty Issues and International Law team in 1998, gaining extensive experience at both the Waitangi Tribunal and Maori Land Court.
He also worked in both private practise and central government as well as overseas.
