Change confirmed for Tainui governors

A third of Te Kauhanganui have voted themselves out of a job with their endorsement of the Waikato-Tainui’s new governing structure.
The tribal parliament confirmed the so-called Marae Model picked by the majority of voting members in a referendum.
The new model has two rather then three representatives from each marae, and it also provides for a smaller executive with a clearer description of the roles and responsibilities of the two organisations.
Te Kauhanganui chair Maxine Moana-Tuwhangai says the Marae Model would become operational when the rule changes associated with the new structure are finalised.
Nanaia Mahuta, the co-chair of the Governance and Representation Review team, says the model should advance tribal development by prioritising skills and capability, efficiency and effectiveness.
