Tourism strategy to help Mana Whenua


Auckland’s mana whenua are keen for the Auckland Council to develop a tourism strategy that includes them.
Iwi representatives have been meeting with the mayor to discuss issues around the latest budget round.
Mayor Len Brown says they appreciate the constraints the council is under as it attempts to keep rate increases down, but they want to find ways to work with council to maximize the potential value of their settlement assets.
They also see the interest foreign visitors have in their culture.
Len Brown says the iwi also want to know how the council can help with marae development.
