Whyte makes up Maori data
The ACT Party sees the announcement of new schools for Auckland as a chance to extend its charter school experiment on Maori and Pasifika children.
The Government says it will use $350 million from state asset sales to build about nine new schools and 130 classrooms in the region.
The spending is being brought forward to meet demand.
ACT leader Jamie Whyte says the nine new schools should be charter or partnership schools, because the five new partnership schools started this year are already outperform public schools.
He says Maori and Pasifika pupils who were failing NCEA at public state schools are passing with distinction at the new partnership schools.
The Post Primary Teachers Association says there is no data yet available on NCEA performance at the partnership schools.
