Chain put over Hole in the Rock

Owners of the Hole in the Rock in the Bay of Islands have criticised whoever hung a chain across the hone, and the Northland Council for removing it without consulting the hapu.
Chair Rau Hosking says the Motu Kokako Trust has nothing to do with putting the chain up.
The presence of the obstacle was reported by tour company Fullers, which takes cruises through the hole without paying a royalty.
The council immediately sent out a boat to remove it.
Mr Hoskins says the speed of the response was interesting, given that not one was required to navigate through the hole.
