Government seeks wealth in north

Days after opening up the waters off Northland to oil and gas exploration, the Government has announced an investigation of economic opportunities in the region.
Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy say it will be led by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
They will work alongside regional stakeholders such as local and regional councils and iwi.
Mr Guy says the first report will build on work already started by his ministry to unlock the potential for growth in Northland’s primary sector.
A similar study on the Gisborne/Hawke’s Bay region is almost complete.
