St Joseph’s teen tops te reo exam
A year 11 St Joseph's Maori Girls' College student has won an Outstanding Scholarship in te reo Maori.
15-year-old Ngapera Aperahama says it would allow her to take her education to a higher level.
She wants to study Maori philosophy and to become a teacher.
She will be old enough to take a university paper in the second semester.
It’s the first outstanding scholarship received by the school and the first time a Year 11 student had gained a scholarship of any form.
Teacher Ripeka Wiki says the teenager possessed special skills, including critical thinking skills, and great depth of knowledge.
