Artists headline Ngapuhi Festival

Work by 140 artists has gone on display in the Northland College hall in Kaikohe in the lead up to this weekend's Ngapuhi Festival.
Runanga chair Sonny Tau says Toi Ngapuhi is Aotearoa’s premier iwi Maori art exhibition, and this year it also includes the work of indigenous artists from Australia, North America, the Pacific and Pacific rim countries.
Three of the overseas artists will also speak at the festival's wananga series, which will be held in the hall on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival's theme is Ngapuhi Reaching Out to the World, and the wananga will focus on Ngapuhi – yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Wananga organiser Hone Sadler says it also features prominent Ngapuhi identies who will adddress the tribe's history, where it is today and the challenges it will face post-settlement.
More than 40,000 people are expected at the festival.
