There's sorrow in Maori fisheries circles at the tragedy that has befallen the family of Sealord director Keith Sutton.
Mr Sutton's 29-year-old daughter Nicole died on Mt Taranaki on Monday with her friend Hiroki Ogawa after they were caught in bad weather while descending from the summit.
Mr Sutton, one of New Zealand's most experienced finance professionals, has been associated with Maori fisheries settlement interests for more than 15 years, serving as a director of Sealord, Aotearoa Fisheries and related companies.
